Making Me Made May 2012 Work for Me

'I, Jane of LuckySewandSew.blogspot.com, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '12. I endeavour to wear/use a self-made item each day for the duration of May 2012'

Gonna do it.  Just to make myself a little nuts and to push myself.  For me, the push is not so much wearing what I sew, I love to do that.  No, I need an external challenge to get me to post more regularly....and I've been mulling over this type of a challenge for a while now.  So yes, I'm participating.  I'm including accessories and jewelry and don't promise daily pic of me in my outfits but I do commit to daily postings for this month.  Of course this morningI feel myself coming down with a cold or flu so maybe this week will be filled with bathrobe and nightgown and polarfleece sock posts but it's only a self-competition.  I'm inspired, last minute of course, by a conversation with a friend on Sunday evening.  She's preparing her thesis defense as she is finishing up a demanding graduate degree in Cultural Sustainability which combines her interest in communities, the arts, history and the relationship among all of these.  She's really pushed herself and has inspired me and also sent a message to her grown sons that learning never stops at any age.  So this is my very small step to upping my game on this blog and in this creative sewing community.

What do you think of contests and challenges such as these?  It's not too late to join this one:

  1. I (or my proxy, Iris) will likely wear me-made every day, just as we always do. However, I can't keep up with the picture taking and posting. This online class (which I am enjoying a ridiculous amount) is taking up much of my blogging time.

Who knew that inductive proofs would make me as happy as sewing a new dress? Oh, yeah, in college I worked as a wardrobe mistress, but majored in 'pure' math.

MMM sounds really gimmicky. But, when I participated last time, it was a reality check to see what I really wear versus what I sew. I am guilty of making stuff for a fantasy life that just doesn't fit my actual lifestyle. MMM made me see the gaps in my me-made wardrobe and address them.

  2. I've participated in the Me-Made 2 or 3 times now, so I'm passing for now. But, I agree, it was a challenge that I did enjoy, though the picture taking can become exhausting.

  3. I will be looking forward to your posts. I love seeing how others put their outfits together on a daily basis. It's one thing to show "finished items" and it's quite another to actually show these items in real life.

    1. I too enjoy seeing others and their wardrobe choices and how seldom they look like the magazine or catalog shots...and more like people I know and would like to know. How about those Burda Style shots which scrunch the garment into action poses but do have exciting stories and locations. Not gonna happen on this blog!
